Art Therapy

What is Art Therapy?

"Discover an increased means of self-expression and an outlet for change."

Art Therapy is a collaboration between client and therapist as they engage in varying means of self-expression.  Self-expression may take form in either verbal or non-verbal interaction.  The simple act of art making may become therapeutic for a client.  Others may find increased meaning and support through the verbal processing of thoughts, feelings, and reactions to their art.  The art therapist serves to support the client in their process.  As well as, to maintain an open conversation with clients and families about session goals and therapeutic interventions.

“Whereas art making can occur in solitude, therapy implies a relationship between at least two people,
one of whom is the therapist and one the client….”therapeutic alliance.”
